Hammertoes

Hammertoe Diagnosis and Treatment

If you are experiencing pain in your toes, you may have a hammertoe condition. They can be caused by wearing shoes that are too short, too tight, or too narrow. When this happens, the toe is forced into a bent position, causing muscles and tendons in the toe to tighten and become shorter.

Early diagnosis and treatment are key to getting you back on the road to recovery. Some treatment methods include physical therapy, where patients are taught how to correctly stretch the affected toe throughout the day. Another treatment includes taking anti-inflammatory medications which help relieve pain and swelling. At times, a corticosteroid injection into the joints of the toe joint is advised.
